I just finished this absolutely masterfully written book by the incomparable Kiersten White.
Fourteen people go in, how many will make it out? Fourteen people that seemingly have no one, that are willing to do something that seems crazy just for a chance at a fresh start, and that fresh start means many different things to these people.
Through twists and turns that rival a roller coaster we find out about our Fourteen, come to care about them, and watch what happens with (in my experience at least) wide eyed terror.
I devoured this book (no pun intended) I read the first page and knew it would be a crazy ride, ten pages in and I was hooked.
Mack is exactly the kind of character I needed in my life right now, she survives, she lives with guilt, she feels hopeless at times, but she tries, and through that we see a complex character that becomes open to the idea of letting go of the past and becoming the person she never thought she could be.
Ava (Mack's Ava) is a bad ass take no prisoners (well yeah, there was that one prisoner) kind of character that you place all your bets on and aren't disappointed.
LeGrand broke my heart and the put it back together again. He goes to show that having a trauma in your life doesn't look the same for everyone but that doesn't mean you wouldn't do anything, sacrifice everything for the chance to fix either a situation or yourself.
I'm afraid if I go any further there will be serious spoilers and I want everyone that reads this book (seriously everyone should read this) to have the same experience I did. I'll leave it with I love, seriously love this book.
