Shield of Sparrows

Let me start by saying I love this book, I love this book so very much I've read it three times now and wish I could read it for the first time again.

I found myself falling in love with reading again in this book; I saw the best parts of everything I love in romance on every single page.

This story will draw you in and make you feel like you're part of this incredible journey.  The monsters will make you think of every scary story you've ever heard, and the characters make you want to believe in a world where people can be better and make the best choices in impossible situations.

One thing I have to touch on is the masterful visual storytelling in this book; I could see the marroweels and their glittery scales, and I could feel the wonder Dessa had trying on pants and a flowing shirt and being able to really breathe for the first time, I could see the beauty of the people and worlds that are found within the pages of this epic adventure.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: this book shows you what fairy tales can be, how immersive, how very fulfilling a story of history, monsters, and unexpected twists can be.

Dessa is now in my top five favorite characters and this book will be living in my mind for a long time to come.
