If I could give this 3.5 stars I would. That being said the writing is beautiful, the story telling is wonderful, it just seemed that some parts (ahem the war) took too much book space and didn't leave enough for the relationship, and let me be frank, the relationship is where it was at for me.

While I was disappointed there wasn't an actual dragon involved I did come to care for the characters even though it was a tad on the confusing side with trying to understand who is who and what part they play, it could just be me but I really feel like the authors ability is what saved this one.

I will be reading more by Naomi Novik, I really do enjoy her visual storytelling, I didn't have to think about any of the things that were being described, these mental pictures just appeared thanks to her descriptions and I loved that.
